What is Virtual Couch?

Gaming used to mean sitting next to someone. One TV, two controllers, elbows touching, somebody's mom bringing snacks. Virtual Couch recreates that experience over distance.

The couch, transported

Somewhere along the way, "multiplayer" started meaning lobbies, matchmaking, and strangers with microphones. The games we grew up with didn't work like that โ€” they were built for one screen and the person next to you. Local multiplayer. Couch multiplayer.

Virtual Couch doesn't add online modes to old games. It does something simpler: it takes the couch itself and stretches it across the internet.

The game does not need native online multiplayer.

If it supports local multiplayer, Virtual Couch can potentially transport those controller inputs remotely.

The deal

Everybody brings something

๐ŸŽฎ The host runs the game

The host picks a game they own. It loads in their browser and never gets uploaded anywhere โ€” their machine does the playing.

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ Guests bring controllers

Guests don't need the game. They open one link, press a button to map their gamepad or keyboard, and take a seat.

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ The couch handles the rest

Controller input travels to the host; the shared picture and sound travel back. Virtual Couch carries everything in between.

Your games stay yours.

Virtual Couch doesn't host or distribute game files โ€” your game runs from your browser; Virtual Couch handles the couch around it.
